Attendance
Hands-On announcements:
No need to email anything to me the morning of your presentation....everything should be posted to the wiki, and I will use what is there by 8:00 the morning of your presentation.
As an audience member, you are a high school student...ask questions, answer questions as if you are a student new to the information.
Hands-On Presentation
Jill and Heather: Edible cell
Debrief: On a 4x6 card:
Give a constructive complement: Describe a strength of the presentation or of the lab design
Give constructive criticism: Describe a way the presentation or the lab design could be improved for next time
Topic Discussion
Materials in a Biology Lab:
How much do lab materials cost?
What materials do you think are stocked in a standard high school biology lab?
What sort of yearly budget do you expect?
How do you get students to "respect" the cost of the equipment?
STEM Kit Challenge: Introduce the assignment (Do in pairs--not the same as Hands-on, or research project
Research Project Topic
Working with a lab partner: both partners must be working together. That does not mean that both people have to do everything, but the work must be distributed. I will be asking you periodically what you have been doing toward this project, and how that compares to your lab partner. Remain accountable, be honest with your lab partner if you feel you are doing too much or too little. TALK about it!
Part 4: Learning about My Topic
Purpose of Library research questions?
How to take Notes: Cards vs. Packet
MLA vs. APA
Assignment to have completed for next week (Sept. 16)
For the research project: If you haven't already, one person from each team should post their names and topic on the research project documentation page, here in the wiki. That will allow me to take a look at them before next week. Remember both people should be using the wiki, try the discussion tab.
Work with your lab partner to hone your research design table--finalize it, and bring it with you.
Begin thinking of how you will obtain materials
Decide how you want to organize your notes (cards or packet); Have cards or packet ready for our fieldtrip to the library...(electronic version of the packet is available on the assignments page...called the MLA Documentation Work Sheet)
